American folklore, the real Wyatt Earp was somewhat
less heroic than his legend. Gambler, drifter,
gunfighter, and only occasionally U.S. Marshal,
Earp's icy courage in difficult circumstances still
made him one of the most formidable lawmen ever to
wear a badge in the Old West.
