Valiant Miniature Kit# 9913 - Brunswick Hussar, 1809-15. After the defeat of Prussia in 1806, the Duchy of Brunswick was dissolved. The Field Marshal, Karl, Duke of Brunswick, overall commander of the Prussian Army was killed at the battle of Auerstadt. His son, Friedrich Wilhelm, fled to Austria. With the outbreak of war between France and Austria in 1809, Friedrich organized a "Free-Corps" for the Austrian Army. The force consisted of one regiment of Infantry and one of Hussars. Their uniforms earned them the nickname of the "Black Horde".In 1814 the Hussars formed part of the English Army that invaded Sicily. In 1815, the Black Horde served with the English Army under Wellington in Belgium. At Quatre Bras, the Brunswickers were in the thick of the battle. Two days later, at Waterloo, they, led by Colonel Olfermann, again fought with distinction. This item is an unpainted and unassembled metal hobby kits. Standing figurines are approx. 2-1/2" - 3" tall. Kit is recommended for ages 8+ |
